Frustrated with an industry that can sometimes process people like numbers, Liz Crowe and her cousin Michael Crowe spotted an opportunity to build a new business where the ethos would celebrate the uniqueness of candidates and the service would delight their clients.

Each armed with an embarrassing number of years and wealth of experience in Recruitment, HR Management and Career Transition, they brought their warm philosophy to the industry and founded NOVA Partners to build robust strategic partnerships with clients.

NOVA Partners provides Executive Recruitment & Search, Career Transition & Outplacement and HR Advisory Services to large, medium and small organisations across Australia, New Zealand, the Asia Pacific region and now also the USA.

The Executive Recruitment and Search division led by Michael Crowe, implements highly developed research-based methodologies and leverages a network that has taken Liz and Michael decades to build.

The Career Transition, Outplacement and HR Advisory divisions led by Liz Crowe, tailor customised programs that have been proven to successfully deliver creative and cost-effective solutions to enable clients to overcome the many HR challenges they face every day.

​After successfully building Career Management teams and services for international providers across Australia, I recognised that there was an opportunity and a need to step outside the large corporate model and build a boutique Australian Career Management business based on Client Service Excellence and Placing People First.

And so, NOVA Partners Career Transition was born and I joined my cousin Michael in his established business, always recognising that ‘One size does not fit all’. The NOVA Partners’ team ensures that change management has the best outcomes for both the candidate and the organisation. This is why we are able to design bespoke programs for organisations that are not traditional and focused specifically on the candidate and organisation’s needs. Everyday is rewarding, especially when people tell us that they would never have gotten through this time without our support. The feedback from our clients is also uplifting to hear as you can tell that the organisation genuinely cares about an employee’s wellbeing and allowing for a smooth process through what is a difficult time for many.

There are many things that I am proud of in my career in the outplacement industry, but being able to manage large projects such as the Sydney 2000 Olympics, the restructure of Pacific Brands with 1800 individuals over a 12 month period and being asked to run a Career Centre in WA for 6 weeks for 250 people in our first year of operation, are some of my highlights.

My philosophy is “No two individuals or clients should ever be seen as the same”.

I founded NOVA Partners in Melbourne in 2011, initially as an Executive Recruitment firm, building on over 25 years of Search and Executive Recruitment, Project Recruitment and Advisory Services.
I had previously owned and led Cadden Crowe, a national recruitment firm, prior to starting NOVA Partners.

I like to be hands-on and I lead the Executive Recruitment practice at NOVA Partners, working closely with the Career Management practice led by my cousin, Liz Crowe in Sydney.

I personally focus on a range of areas from NED, C-Level through to mid management roles, with my team working on professional level roles across most functional areas of an organisation.

I believe in creating a relationship based, client-partnered model, supporting both line managers and HR to source and advise on talent needs. I have an in-depth knowledge of markets such as Engineering & Infrastructure, Utility & Energy, Manufacturing and Services groups. I have considerable experience working with International Companies, ASX listed organisations, medium and large private businesses and family office groups.

I directly lead assignments and oversee the NOVA Partners team to deliver the same quality and client engagement standards, whilst living the NOVA values and Placing People First.

I started working with NOVA Partners in March 2019 after discovering the opportunity to work with a boutique firm which offers a specialised range of HR services to all companies, large or small.

It is really uplifting when I hear feedback from individuals who have walked through NOVA Partners’ doors and come out on the other side with a boosted sense of confidence and self-assurance, no matter whether the person has landed a job or not. Simply providing an ear for individuals makes a great difference with helping someone take control of their work life and figuring out the way forward.

It is also encouraging to see that all of our clients genuinely care about the wellbeing of the individual and really do want what is best for them going forward. It is so eye-opening to see that redundancy does not discriminate and is really not about the individual, rather it is about the role.

What I love most about my work is the opportunity to use my broad, international experience gained working as a Corporate Lawyer and in HR, Coaching, Psychotherapy and Leadership Development to help people get the most from their career transition. I value the opportunity to work closely with people at what can be a difficult time in their lives and career and helping them get through it and to transition into something even better.

I am most proud of the expertise I have developed through working for over 15 years in the industry and tailoring this to meet the needs of many hundreds of people helping each person to land a job they love and create the career they deserve.

Some time back I went through redundancy myself and made my own career change, finding my true passion in helping people build their confidence and make a positive step forward. Having known Liz for over 20 years from my previous career in HR, I was keen to join NOVA as a business that values individuals and aims to make sure that every client gets the tailored support they need.

I started working at NOVA in August 2019 and was attracted by the opportunity to work with good people and to partner with clients in their job search journey.

I love working with my clients and helping them navigate what can often be a frustrating and challenging process to find a new role. When I get the phone call or email to advise they have landed a new role, I get a great amount of satisfaction (especially as I have also been through redundancy and know the relief and joy involved when you get a new job).

I worked in Human Resources for a number of years in Australia, Singapore and the UK prior to moving into career coaching. While you work on many projects and get involved in many work-related activities, my proudest achievement or legacy is in seeing people I’ve hired progress in their careers and to reach their potential.

As a career coach, I teach candidates how to ‘fish’…in other words, to be independent, resourceful and ultimately successful in their job search.
